Lecture Offerings

I would love to speak to your guild or quilting group! I’m currently only offering remote lectures over zoom (or other video platforms). Thank you for understanding. You can reach me at lhartrich@gmail.com to inquire about dates and availability. My fee is $400 for a 45-60 minute lecture.

Liner Notes and Labels: Learning to Love Quilt Documentation

Do you need to step up your documentation game? Does labeling your quilts seem utterly tedious when all you want to do is keep sewing? I am on a mission to convince quilters that documenting their work is worth the effort, and that the process can enrich any quilter’s creative practice! I will outline the various methods I use to document my own work (think notebooks and labels), sharing tons of inspiration images and sketchbook sneak-peeks. Attendees will walk away with simple, attainable ideas for recording the details of their work, along with motivation to make it happen even when they’d rather be sewing.

Labels as a Love Letter

In this presentation I will talk about how labels factor into my quiltmaking practice. I will share lots of images as I discuss technique, inspiration, and motivation for creating labels as detailed and unique as my quilts themselves. (There is some overlap in content with the quilt documentation lecture above, but spending the whole lecture on labels allows me to go more in depth, showing more examples, and spending some time on aesthetic considerations.)

My Quilt Story + Trunk Show

I will walk through my own quilting journey, from how I got started, to what spurs me on, while showing lots of quilt pictures (if virtual) or actual quilts (if in person)! I’m a very eclectic quilter so this trunk show features many styles of quilts for the audience to enjoy.

Audience Feedback

Her words helped me embrace the power of the label and not just focus on the visual representation of how “perfect” I still desire to be at times. She didn’t just say let go of perfection or any of the other simple platitudes that are often unhelpful to me. She showed how to implement that notion within the context of each piece and used it to empower the visual nature of each quilt, all while deepening the story aspect. I totally got it.
Laura’s presentation was engaging, validating, and encouraging.
She presented a lot of useful tips and methods that I can see myself doing going forward. She also convinced me that I’m not documenting my own work enough.
By far my favorite lecture at QuiltCon!!! Loved her realistic, no judgement approach to life. I already made my first label since coming back! Awesome presentation.
Thank you for a fascinating and educational talk! I have never been so inspired to label and document my quilts as I am now. I also can’t wait to use quilting as a tangible journal of my life. Your work is such a fun artistic approach to quilting and was a joy to have shared with us!
I feel so inspired now! I’ve never felt my quilts were worthy of a label, but I can see how much yours add to your work. Excited to start labeling.
So grateful to have heard this marvelous presentation. I love your enthusiasm and love for our craft! Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement.
Laura, thank you so much for your presentation! It really inspired me and gave me a lot to think about!
